I began drawing in July 2011 after leaving a very demanding career and feeling the need to create something, anything! I was lucky enough to find Judith Dickinson to study with when I went looking for art classes. I'm a published author of poetry and fiction and words have been my life as long as I can remember however I found myself dreaming of capturing emotion and perceiving the world in a different way, more viscerally, less wordy. I am fascinated by the challenge of capturing the essence of a person through charcoal, graphite, pastel and some home made watercolors which I make from coffee, tea and onion skins. Eyes are my absolute favorite and I spend a lot of time there trying to tune in and really grasp the emotional tone of the subject. The greatest compliment I can receive is to hear 'you really captured their______!'
